Installing on Microsoft Network
For network installation, you must first create a new directory / folder on the server or main workstation hard disk that will house the shared database.
e.g. C:\server where C: is the name of the hard disk.
Make this folder a shared folder accessible by other workstations on the network. You do this via Windows Explorer (click right mouse button on Start button and select Explore). Navigate to the folder name above and right click on it. From the dropdown menu, select Sharing. Enable the "Shared as" button and set "Access type" to "Full". ( If you need to restrict some users to only view but not accept/change appointments, set "Access type" to "Depends on Password". Then enter the respective passwords for "Read-only" access and "Full" access.)
On the client workstations, you must connect to the shared folder above. Double click on the "Network Neighbourhood" icon on the desktop. Then find the shared folder on the server or main workstation. Right click on this shared folder name that you created on the server station:
e.g. server
and select the "Map Network Drive" option. Set the drive to a letter that is currently not in use by any local storage devices, e.g. Z: Enable the "Reconnect at logon" option.
* The program is based on a simple two-tier file server design. You have to install and run the program locally on all workstations. You cannot run the program off the server from the clients.
Install the program on each workstation by running the Setup.exe file. Please reboot after a successful install to register all the necessary system files.
In small peer-to-peer networks, one of the workstations usually acts as the main or "server" station. When you run the program locally on this station (via Start \ Program Files \ Appointment Book Network MLT Version ) for the first time - answer Yes to the question "Is this station acting as the server or admin station?". In the Input Box, enter the full path of the shared folder created above e.g. C:\server.
In client/server setups, you select one of the clients to act as the Admin station. This station will have rights to administer the program (configure time settings, page templates, backup files, etc). At this Admin station, when you run the program for the first time locally, answer Yes to the question "Is this station acting as the server or admin station?". Then enter the full path to the shared folder on the server e.g. \\G:\ApptServer, where G: is the name of the server harddisk.
On all other participating client stations, when you run the program for the first time locally (via Start \ Programs \ Conference Rooms Scheduler ), answer NO to the first question and enter the same full path to the shared folder on the server e.g. \\G:\ApptServer, where G: is the name of the server harddisk.
Extra Installation Notes:
You cannot run the program directly off the server from the clients. You have to run the program locally on the clients via Start \ Programs \ Appointment Book Network MLT Version.
You do not need to install the program on the server, unless you wish to administer the program at the server. In this case, you treat the server as the Admin station. After installation, when you run the program for the first time, answer Yes to the question, and enter the full path of the shared folder.
For Windows NT/2000, client stations must logon as "Power Users" or "Server Operators" to gain concurrent access to the database. Otherwise, the Refresh function may not work properly.
