Windows Media Player 12, developed by Microsoft. It is available for Windows XP and included in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

It has native support for H.264, Xvid and DivX video as well as AAC audio. Microsoft recently announced support in Windows Media Player 12 for the .mov file format, which is included in the release candidate of Windows 7.

The Advanced Tag Editor (ID3 tag editor), which allows users to edit information concerning an WMA or MP3 file, was removed. By editing media attributes in the Details pane, users can still accomplish some of the tasks they might have formerly performed in Advanced Tag Editor.

Also, the "Party mode" feature from Media Player in Windows Vista has been removed in Windows 7.
