How to compress/optimize an image
To compress or optimize an open image:
1. Set the compression parameters.
Advanced JPEG Compressor has a lot of compression related controls:
+ Compression level sliders for Luma and Chroma channels
+ 5-band graphic Detail Quality Equalizer
+ Compression Oriented Image Prefiltering
Also you can access many options from the Compression toolbar, Options menu or Options toolbar.
The Luma compression level has the most significant value on the resulting image's quality and file size.
2. Apply the current settings to get the compressed image.
To apply the current compression parameters:
+ If the default option Compress on Options Change is turned on:
+ Do nothing, go to 3
This option forces the compression to be applied automatically when compression parameters changed. You can easily evaluate how the change of some compression parameter influence on the result image.
+ If the Compress on Command option is turned on:
- Use the Compress button from the File toolbar
- Use Compress from the File menu
- Press Ctrl + P
The Status Bar of the Main Window displays the progress and the current status.
When the process of compression will be done, the resulting image will be displayed (changed) in the Result Image area.
3. Examine the compressed image's quality and file size.
See and compare the result image with the source image, their file sizes and the quality of the result image.
+ If the quality and file size of the result image is acceptable, save the result image.
+ If not acceptable, go to 1 to adjust the parameters.
